Can you depend on your family?

Baghban! I was curious about what the word really meant. After watching the movie, I understood why it's meant to mean the caretaker or Guardian. The movie shows the relationship between parents and their children once the kids grow up.Parents put all their efforts in trying to give their children the best life they could get and in return, once they grow up the kids don't wanna bother with those who gave them life. This is the topic that Baghban is tackling - family life, and more specifically the life of the elderly. All their lives, our parents thrive to give us the best, to ensure all our wishes and dreams are achieved, to ensure that our lives are given more priority over theirs. . Can we say that there is an expectation from our parents that we should look after them in their old age? Is it a sense of duty? NO - it is essence of humanity and gratitude that we should foster and love those that have loved us - and should not be obliged to do so but cause we want to do so. If we look around us there are so many children that have been abandoned, abused or neglected - so we should be grateful that we are not one of them and its are parents that are responsible for it.It is clear that after Allah parents are the persons who give us innumerable favors. They provide protection, food and clothing to the newly born. The mother sacrifices her comforts and sleep to provide comfort to her children. Friends you can choose, but family you can't - and it is sad to say that in times of need it is your friends that stand by you and not your family. In all it is not a good movie, it's a great movie, but remember to take your box of Kleenex with you.

"Your Lord has decreed that you worship non but Him, and that (you show) kindness to parents. Should one or both of them attain to old age with you, Say not "Fie'' unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word. And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little. Your Lord is best aware of what is in yourselves. If you are righteous, then Lo! He was ever forgiving unto those who turn unto Him" (17: 23-25).

I loved Baghbaan, (well, I love Bollywood so go figure). And my mom was snapping all the way through, especially at the end…lol

It is sad when we don’t recognize the sacrifices our parents make for us and respect them as such.

But just for family in general I think family is not so much about group feeling or blood ties all the time. Sometimes, God brings people in our lives who do more than brother, sister, aunty cousin etc. would do. The moral is a great one.

Argh, you’ve got me jonesing to see Bollywood movie now :)

Malizea,
Yeh its a good movie :)

Gazelle du Sahara,
You're so right, 'family is not just about group feeling or blood ties'. Sometimes we meet people who become very close to us, closer than our own family! I love bollywood movies :)

Ms.Unique,
No I'm not Indian lol, I just love Bollywood movies and foreign movies in general :) I don't remember the movie being indecent, maybe someone else can clarify! But it was more about a family type movie, relationship between children and parents. I haven't seen Taare Zameen Par so I can't compare! But I've seen a lot of great Indian movies. I think Devdas was another good one too :)

Hijabee-

You had to mention Devdas... that was my first Bollywood movie (pre-revert days) and then "friend" (my hubby) translated the entire movie!
I've seen alot of hindi films and this one,to me, is one the best ones out there

Oh yes, another great family themed Bollywood movie, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... same old guy Amitabh playing the Dad and his real-life wife plays the Mom. More Shahrukh and Hritik Roshan- I loved Kajol!

Empress Anisa,
Yes Devdas was great and you made me go back to my Netflix rental history to look @ other great hindi movies. My favorites are: Iqbal,Black( with Amitabh, this one is so saddd), Kal Ho Na Ho,Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam lol....Don't even get me started, my hubby gets annoyed when I rent too much Hindi movies, he likes the stories but not the singing, he says they sing too much lol and it's like a musical! You're so lucky that your hubbye translated the whole movie to you, wooow! I just added abhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to my netflix queue, they don't have it yet so I will be patient :)

Kabbi Kushi Kabbi Gham is soo good, and so sad.
My all time fav though is Chalte Chalte. That would be a good movie to watch with your hubby. Mine liked it, It's the only hindi movie he liked.
As far as the songs, I just fast forward through them...LOL

I meant queue, not clue

LoL. Ms. Unique, I think Hindi movies without lots of songs is .. well ... not Hindi! That's the essence, really! Sometimes I imitate their routines *the whole running around, singing stuff* whenever I want to crack a laugh from people. :)

I guess I'm lucky cos the tv stations here always show Hindi movies, with subs. Due to work, I can only catch the ones aired during weekends. Can't remember whether I've seen this though. By far, 3K1G is the ultimate tearjerker for me. I'm not gonna spoil it for you, but it's really really good!
