I'm preparing for the invevitable break-up with my laptop. Sometimes last week, I turned on my computer and it started doing some funny things. I kept getting messages from Spyware Guard 2008 telling me that it found 29 viruses in my computer and I needed to buy Spyware Guard 2008 to clean it up. First, I kept getting this message every 5 minutes or so, then I realized that there was a Spyware Guard 2008 icon on my desktop. Weird, I don't remember ever downloading this program let alone give it an icon on my desktop. See, having an icon on my desktop is something special, not just for any random freebees. So, at that very moment, my heart stopped, I knew I was invaded! I googled Spyware Guard 2008 and this is what I found:
Spyware Guard 2008 is a new entrant to the family of rogue security software. It is not to be confused with SpywareGuard a fine freeware from Javacool software. Spyware Guard 2008 considerably slows down your computer speed and creates extra pressure on the memory so that wear and tear of equipment, without exaggerations, is multiplied in thousands times.A rogue security software belongs to a family of software products that call themselves as antivirus, antispyware or registry cleaners and often use deceptive or high pressure sales tactics and deliberate false positives to convince users into buying a license/subscription. They are often repackaged and renamed. They do not actually remove malware instead many of them add more malware of their own.Someone dared to invade my privacy and pose themselves as a Guard and this was really pissing me off! How dare you? How dare you invade my privacy and break up my beautiful relationship with my laptop? I did not do anything to you, I had a special connection with my machine. Her and I go way back, she's been there for me when I had insomnia and couldn't do anything else but browse the internet, she's been there for me when I needed to google some last minute information for research papers that were due the next day, she's always been there for me....She never demanded anything, she was happy and would go green as soon as I put her on. Now, she's being attacked, invaded and there is nothing I can do to save her. I tried deleting the malicious Spyware Program,it didn't let me, I used different antivirus scans, none of them could catch it. Every time I turned my computer on, the Spyware Guard icon would be on my desktop nagging me, showing me that this was now his base and he was here to stay! I haven't turned it on for days now because I don't wanna see this icon smiling at me! I'm gonna try one more thing this week before I call the Geek Squad to bring my laptop and I to where we used to be. In the meantime beware of this rogue, stay away from anything that reads Spyware Guard 2008!

Rabia,
I rebooted the computer hundreds of time, it doesn't even let me go online sometimes, and when it does, it is so slow that it's not even worth it

Oh sweety you have to scan your PC reguarly otherwise it could be a mess....glad to see you back though.
Haha good idea call the geek squad to help they'll know what to do:p
Hijabee-
Okay... take it from a semi-paranoid person always scanning my computer:
1.) go to sunbelt.com
2.) download the 30 day free trail for adware/spyware
3.) let it do a "deep" scan on your computer!
This is good for 30 days- then just uninstall and wait a day and install it again- best one out there... and it's free
If there's anything on your computer, Vipre will find it!
No need to call anyone- and you can set to scan your computer at any time of the day (I set mine to scan 4AM when nobody's on)
*Dont be alarmed if the scan takes awhile... it searches EVERY file on your computer and depending how much stuff u got on there, it'll be some time- mine usually takes about an hour
After that, go into your settings, clean out ALL cookies and saved websites- done!
Ms. Unique, yes you should definetely scan your PC.
Mina, I'm learning the hard way :) I guess that's what I get for not scanning my pc :)
Empress Anisa,
I tried so many things!!! This spyware is gangsta!! Nothing's been able to catch it! Malawarebytes was able to catch it but couldn't get rid of it. I will try Vipre when I get home inshallah. Thanks for the hint :)
i am sorry you had to go through that!!
Finally my computer is free from this worm! My geeky friend suggested last week that I dowload Kapersky free trial and I was so busy this weekend I did not try it. I did and now it's gone alhamdulilah!
Amina,
Hope you're alright, make sure to scan your computer and protect it from spywares. It's very annoying!
Geeky? Hey, I resent that. Haha~
Anyhow, glad to know that you have re-established the relationship you have with your lappie. Perhaps you might want to protect her from any possible future invasions. ^ I for one, will go ballistic if anything comes in-between me and the pc.
I am happy to see you back:)
Hajar,
lol yes geeky, are you one? lol and yes do go ballistic and don't allow anything to come between you and your pc :)
Banafshe,
Thanks, you're so sweet :)
To a certain extent. :) Nowadays, I consider it as a compliment.
As salamu alaykum sister, I'm sorry to hear that and also having to buy a product. I've seen many free alternatives and right now, I am using a very good free antivirus and anti-spyware. You should check for the ones mostly downloaded on Download.com
Autumn Plains,
Waleikum Salam sister. Thank you for the link. I downloades Kapersky for free on the Kapersky website and it's doing wonders so far :)
