Here and There

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world....

I've been eating and sleeping for the past few days. There seems to be a disconnect between my mind and my body. There are so many things I want to do but my body's just constantly tired and sleepy. My belly is getting bigger and bigger and I find myself sitting and staring at it when the baby's dancing, kicking and turning. It's super-freaky to see my belly bump and bounce. We play this little game where she kicks, then I poke her, she runs and kick somewhere else and I poke her back, lol. DH thinks I might be hurting her but I tell him not to worry, she's very strong. It's a great way for us to bond and interact while she's in there.

My dr's appointment went well yesterday and I took the glucose-screening test which involves drinking a solution of glucose that tastes like very sweet orange soda. After an hour passes, the doctor draws your blood to see how well you processed the sugar. I'm supposed to get my results on Thursday and I hope they're good. If your body did not process the sugar well you will have to go back for a 3-hour glucose tolerance test, yuck! Oh, yeh great news, I gained 8 pounds in one month! I did not do anything not to gain weight, I mean, I haven't been exercising or avoiding junk food, but that was still shocking. I think I will start walking for 30 minutes on the treadmill daily. I'm also looking forward to starting birthing classes next week inshaAllah.

I always loved the food references. Chinese cabbage? WTH? Have you found this site yet? (http://www.alphamom.com/pregnancy-calendar/) it's a really funny pregnancy week-by-week thing written by a famous dc blogger. I thought it was really entertaining, and I wasn't even pregnant at the time it was being written.

I remember the gestational diabetes test so well, it was so boring and I was worried I was going to test positive since before that I had jelly beans for breakfast :X (not my usual breakfast but I was in a hurry and craved something sweet) now I have to go for that test again in a month for baby #2. Alhamdulillah the test came back negative for Foo. When I was about 32 weeks with my 1st I gained 6 lbs in 1 week(it had nothing to do with my diet)! If this happens to you go to the drug store and check your blood preassure, if you have high blood preassure call your doc. I don't mean to scare you, but this is something I never knew about and it happened to me (preeclampsia). The birthing classes sound like fun, my daughter was born the day I was supposed to start so let us know how it goes. inshAllah take care

My first son is now 7 weeks old and I had gestational diabetes. It sucks if you never had to watch what you eat. I took the follow up test to see if it went away and it has alhamduillah.

aaaw...it is a fun game both of you play..lol....
please keep us posted about the results.
Lol at the t-shirt yet true. It is sooo annoying when someone just invades your personal space and touch the belly without your permission.

yuck. the glucose test. The sugar high that that disgusting drink gave me almost made me pass out. I was sure that meant i was going to fail and have to do the whole things over again, lol.

It's funny that your husband is afraid of you hurting the baby doing that game. My husband was always the one playing the 'poking' game when I was pregnant.

Mina,
AWW, can't wait to see you when you get here. Thanks hun and yes it is truly a blessing, you're next inshaAllah :)

The Gori wife,
I know right, lol, from bean to chinese cabbage, I don't know how they come up with these. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Habayeb,
The birthing classes I guess prepare you for labor, but I don't know really what they're gonna be about, so we will see. And no, I won't forget my beloved toddieeeee lool :)

Precious Muslimah,
Ameen to your dua. Thank you for stopping by :)

Muslimahh,
Yes we are still debating names but don't have anything definite as of yet. How far are you?

Struggling,
Yeh I heard about preclempsia and also read about it, it is associated with high blood pressure. My bp has been fine so far but we will see. I was just shocked by the surge in weight gain, I don't wanna look like a sumo wrestler at the end of the pregnancy lol. Apparently birth classes are fun, mine's been pushed one week further, so we will see how that goes.

Nawal,
Mabrook on your son! You must be busy with a 7 weeks old on your hands :) How was the birth? Alhamdulilah, your GD didn't progress to diabetes.

Amina,
Yes it is. Keeps me company :) I will keep you posted inshaALlah.

Ms. Unique,
Thank you hun :)

NIkki,
Yeh, I so don't wanna repeat the glucola test lol. And about the poking game, I think my husband's getting more comfortable doing it now since he sees that there is no harm lol. Thanks for stopping by :)

I wouldn't worry too much about gaining weight! If you're thin, and by this I mean, do you weigh 265 pounds, wearing 3x/4x like me?? Or are you a thin gal that *thinks* she's fat? (LOL!) I mean, even chunky women are not FAT fat. Like me LOL!

If you're thin then your body wants to put on some fat so it can carry through the pregnancy, the labor, and the breast feeding. It's perfectly normal. Don't let the "OMG NOT FAT!! ANYTHING BUT FAT!" doctors scare-monger you.

If you're fat like me, and you avoid sugary foods and you do moderate exercise, you end up losing weight because your body is like, "Oh, ok. There's enough fat here to spare." And then your thin preggo friends hate you. They think that they are somehow making mistakes while you are doing something right.

Trust me on this!! Living on a farm I specialize in pregnancy hahaha! We never ever like to see a skinny sheep or cow get preggo. But if we see a fat sheep or cow going thin while preggo, or a thin sheep/cow getting fat while preggo, we don't worry one bit.

I'm pregnant again ~ my first pregnancy was totally RUINED by all of the scare mongering from the OBs and midwives. It's so rediculous the way they obsess about EVERYTHING! "Don't eat liver! Don't gain more then x pounds! Don't eat unpasturized cheese, don't take hot baths! dont ride your bike!..."

**Sigh** Women have been popping out kids for, I dunno, 10,000 years or so. Hello! Pregnancy is not an automatic emergency!

The best pregnancy books are by Ina May Gaskin. Totally informative without all of the hysterical hype.

Coffee Catholic,
My pre-pregnancy normal weight is 140 and I'm 5'7. I do expect to finish this pregnancy @ around 200 pounds, it's just that the dr told me that the 8 pounds jump in one month was a lot. I stopped reading a lot of pregnancy books, forums and websites coz they'd scare the hell out of you with all kind of warnings and interpretations of your symptoms.

Sacrifice4Allah,
Ameen for your dua. Thanks for stopping by~

Nawal, lol. If I make it without gaining 100 pounds, I will be happy :)
